A Moment of Power Not To Be Missed…

An astrological Blue Moon is a rare thing and something to be noted. It occurs when the Moon is full twice in a solar month, giving us two successive Full Moons in the same zodiac sign. The second of those Moons is a Blue Moon. The next such moon isn’t until June 2016. Blue Moon is a title though, not a description, so whilst the Moon will be full she’ll not be blue… just so you know!

A Blue Moon signals the completion of a process which began with the first Full Moon of the two. Back then (22nd/23rd July) energies were high and we were having to be careful just what we did with all that pent up energy inside us. Irritations were rife and conflicts rearing their ugly heads. I spoke about us being under pressure from everything within that needs to come out and be expressed. Throughout the intervening month there’s been a lot of pressure needing release and emotions needing acknowledgement. We have been pushed time and time again to face ourselves, warts and all, in order to take ownership of all that we are and decide how to go about shifting and healing those parts of us which we have ignored, avoided and denied for way too long. Such a process requires searing honesty and an unflinching willingness to acknowledge who and what we are. The sword of truth has been wielded throughout this past month, and the more desperately we’ve tried to avoid its cutting edge the more likely we are to have had to face it nonetheless.

We all know the truth can set us free, but it’s so easy to focus on the truth about other people and not ourselves. We may see in others what we cannot perceive in our own behaviour, or distract our inner gaze by focusing on problems in the outside world. At the time of this Blue Moon the heavens urge us to look within not without, and to recognise that whatever we find in there is our responsibility, no one else’s. Yes, we may have been subject to unfairness and abuse in the past, but what exists here and now is ours to do with what we will, and what we do with it is one of the biggest and most important choices any human being can ever make. It defines our future and colours the futures of those who follow us. We leave to our descendants the legacy of this choice. We need to make it well.

So this Blue Moon in the zodiac sign most resonant with the equality of all living beings, urges us to make this choice now. Calling on the Moon as our witness to this choice can energise our intent, focusing our minds and hearts in ways not ordinarily available to us. This is a moment of power, a moment of potential and it is up to each one of us whether we use that power to take ownership of our lives or to reinforce ourselves as victims in a wider web of forces which serve only to oppress us. This is a Moon which seeks to empower us to make positive choices and significant changes in our lives. She sees our potential and shines upon each one of us equally, knowing that within every individual lies the possibility of change and growth, no matter who, where or what we are, what we have done or what we believe.

Of course not all potential is realised. That’s a fact of life too. But at times like this we have a golden opportunity for growth and transformation, a chance to release the fetters that keep us constricted and bound. We have an opportunity to ‘do’ life in a different way, and the more of us that can do that, the greater the potential for inner shifts to be reflected in wider societal and global change. Which is, of course, what every Aquarian Moon wants to see in the end!

Happy Blue Moon everyone!
