Grassroots Evolution

The ups and downs of life seem particularly marked these days. One minute we’re on top of the world, the next down in the dumps. One day we see great progress, the next it’s three steps back. One day peace, the next, chaos! This is the way of it right now. Extremes are being marked out and defined like never before. The parts of us which are shifting and changing throw into stark relief the bits which still play the same old tapes of past hurts, current fears, repeated struggles and annoying habits we just can’t seem to break.

It can be particularly frustrating because everywhere you look is someone (including me!) talking about the potential of these times, the possibilities for transformation like none before it, the birth of a new world, a new age, a whole new future being born. On the days we’re not ‘feeling it’ we may feel we’ve missed the boat, that somehow these changes aren’t for us, that our particular constellation of issues and problems is too great a match even for the cosmos to straighten out. Either that or everyone else is just bonkers and it’s all wishful thinking…

But, in their usual thoroughness, the heavens speak even of these thoughts and feelings. They remind us that we each have our own bit of the collective psyche to work with, embrace and heal. No matter how personal our thoughts and feelings may seem, they are also part of a far greater whole in which exists every emotion, every thought, every experience known to human kind. We both draw from and contribute to this collective pool of energy every day of our lives and, as individuals, we resonate with particular aspects of it more strongly than others. One person is here to work through anger, another is healing grief, another working on boundaries and self-definition. None of us have to do it all but we’re each here to do our part and thus contribute our bit of healing into the collective pool.

So for those of us feeling perhaps this particular time of transformation has passed us by and we’re forever destined to live under the tyranny of the egoic mind, the heavens remind us that this is what we’re here to heal: that very thought, that we’re not going to make it; that we can’t do it; we can’t let go; we can’t jump or take a leap of faith. We just CAN’T. Full Stop. We’re not all here to develop healing powers and psychic gifts, play in other dimensions and channel non-corporeal beings. Some are, yes, but that’s their path and we’re not walking theirs, we’re walking ours. Until we get clear about what our path requires of us in this present moment it’s going to be a very slow and frustrating journey!

If today is a day of doubt and discouragement, like yesterday and the day before, then doubt and discouragement is what we’re here to work with right now, not just for ourselves but for everyone. It is just as noble a task as channelling wisdom messages which inspire and enlighten, or healing those in deep distress. We can so easily compare ourselves to others and find us wanting in the shadow of their light, but these are false comparisons which serve only to obscure what’s really going on: the healing of the collective psyche and soul, the healing of the planet, the – yes you’ve guessed it – birth of a new world!

We each have a role to play and we’re needed to show up for that role. Discouragement has been a powerful force throughout human history, causing countless millions to give up and give in, to resign themselves to a life only half lived, to trade material security for personal and spiritual fulfilment. Those who are facing it now have been given a mighty task that can change the history of the human race, because the more we can be with that discouragement, embrace it, listen to its fears and concerns, its warnings and received wisdom, the better we can get to know how it works, its insidious nature, the conditions and behaviours which keep it in place. And once we know it that well we can truly begin to dismantle it once and for all. For ourselves and each other.

The significance of this role at this time cannot be over-estimated. This is the evolutionary soil in which the seeds of the new will grow. The grassroots work needs to be done and that entails living everyday life to the full, with all its challenges and mishaps, emotions and fears, whilst embracing the fact that today we may be full of fear, or deeply depressed; today we may feel no connection to inner guidance, to Spirit, to any kind of peace. But still we can keep the faith, knowing that something is happening, things are changing, life is shifting. Still we can bring a gentle awareness to our own pain, knowing that in doing so we are bringing that awareness to this pain for everyone and thus we are playing our (vital) part in that shift.

There are no minor roles in this planetary blockbuster. We each have a leading part to play, no matter how much it may look like we don’t. The key is to play it with all our heart and soul, knowing that no one else anywhere on the planet could do it any better than we can.

Love to everyone.
