We Are What We Are
After the intensity of the Full Moon this alliance between the Sun and Pluto comes as something of a strangely mundane relief! Through it we can discover the spiritual power underpinning the formation of personality. As unique individuals, each and every one of us, we have our role to play in the unfolding of planetary destiny. Like it or not we are part of something far greater which has a claim upon us. At the same time we are you and me with identities which form the fabric of our lives, arrayed with triumphs, challenges and blessings – a web of activity and emotion uniquely our own. This alliance reflects the power of the egoic-self to further our awakening or block it, to align with the greater force of becoming or diminish our influence within the greater shift of conscious evolution.
With the Sun now roaring in Leo the ego has much to enjoy. In the sign of the lion it is celebrated as a powerful aspect of life at our disposal to use as we choose. Ego – that tendency we have to crystallise life’s experiences into a ‘me and mine’ – is not a demonic presence to be cast out forever but a powerful energy to be consciously brought on side, its influence secured to further our liberation rather than bind us to small-minded power games. During this brief alliance we have the opportunity to experience directly the spiritual power of our earth-bound ego, to embrace and draw upon it in ways that may previously have been out of reach. The heavens remind us that personality is a tool like anything else, enabling us to effectively connect with, act upon and positively influence the world around us.
It is up to each one of us, supported by Mars, Jupiter and Saturn to identify how our particular personality can be used for the greater good. There are no rules, nor one special way. The combination of the Sun and Pluto illuminates most strongly those aspects of ourselves we or others may struggle with, deeming them in some way ‘wrong’. If you’re naturally ‘bossy’ perhaps life now calls for someone who’s prepared to step up and take charge, organise others and get things done. If pragmatism’s your thing, there may be a need for just such down to earth, no nonsense attitude in the days ahead. If you’re emotionally sensitive you may be needed to empathise with another’s pain or feel into a situation which requires something other than a logical approach to progress it. Whoever we are and however our ego is shaped, in the coming days it has a part to play that is bigger and more significant than its role in the usual every day activities and dynamics of the mundane world.
Times such as this are great levellers. No spiritual acumen is needed, no sacred practice necessary. We all have a personality, an ego identity, so we all have a chance to contribute our bit given the will to do so. Right now life needs us wearing our human face with its foibles and failings, blessings and abilities. All that’s required is that we engage consciously with the world around us and then see what’s needed when. Even what may be deemed our ‘greatest weakness’ could find a valuable role. Too irritable for this world? Maybe that irritation is exactly what’s needed now to shake others out of complacency. Battling shyness every time you step outside your front door? Perhaps your unobtrusive presence is just what’s needed to shift the over-involved vigour in another. We all emit and receive energy, forever blending our own with that of our environment. Right now, who we are at a personality level is contributing exactly the kind of energy needed no matter how we may feel about it! Acceptance of this fact enables a deeper understanding of what it means to be an ego with a body in this material world infused with spirit. One level isn’t less than another, somehow not as real. It’s all real and so are we, in every bit of our being, from our irritating habits to our deepest, most profound wisdom. Every part is a valid aspect of the whole, contributing and drawing from the collective field in which we all meet and merge. The deeper our awareness of this fact the better able we become to act with focused and aligned intent.
It’s an unusual one, this alliance. In the light of the challenging Full Moon it feels like a bit of a joke and yet carries such an important message: we don’t have to be anything other than who we are. The key is to be who we are consciously! Even as we refine ourselves and our experience, heal our wounds, return to wholeness and embody spirit in this material realm, we are still just you and me, which is exactly enough, always. The perfection of each moment brings forth from us just what’s need and when, even as we stand back and judge, deeming ourselves and others flawed, this moment far from ideal.
We are what we are and what we are is just fine. We have and are everything we need to fulfil our role on earth. All we have to do is believe it, accept ourselves and go live our lives. ‘Go be who you are’, the heavens suggest, ‘for that’s exactly who’ll be needed in the coming days’.
