Testing Our Truth
The Moon is full in the 4th degree of Taurus at six minutes past midday UT. Although in an earthy and grounded sign, she is highly energised and somewhat on edge. Feelings may run high, tempers flare and anxieties bubble to the surface, no longer content with being ignored. Taurean determination to see the world in black and white is challenged by the penetrating Scorpio Sun which embraces more willingly the paradoxical complexities of life. Add in to the mix Saturn in Sagittarius forming an Irritation Triangle to the Sun and Moon, and we have a Full Moon which may trigger powerful emotions that disrupt the status quo when we least expect it, demanding we adjust our attitude to accommodate the unforeseen.
Saturn’s role at this Full Moon is highly influential. Approaching its first exact square to Neptune in a month’s time, it reminds us that simply believing certain things about life, other people or ourselves – be they ‘positive’ or ‘negative’ – changes nothing. It is how we live those beliefs that makes any kind of difference. We all know the impact of negative thoughts and it’s tempting to think we must simply replace them with something more positive and life-affirming, but Saturn begs to differ. Positive beliefs mean nothing unless they’re rooted in wisdom, just as negative beliefs are healed by insight, not denial. It’s not enough to claim that ‘everything happens for a reason’, nor to simply reject an inner voice that tells us we’re falling short. Instead we need to penetrate the messages we give ourselves each day, engage with them, compare them to our experience and see what matches up and where life reveals something altogether different to what we’ve believed up to now.
The energy of this Full Moon is heightened precisely because it takes nothing for granted and makes no assumptions. No spiritual platitude or glib philosophical ‘strap-line’ can survive its penetrating gaze. There are fewer and fewer places to hide from truth these days. Increasing layers of denial, defensiveness and delusion are being stripped away from us, leaving the raw truth exposed in all its sometimes shocking, sometimes inspiring, glory. We must do more than simply believe or identify with a particular outlook or spiritual understanding. We must live it every moment of every day. Express our devotion to it, test it out on the cliff face of life which throws obstacles and hurdles in our path. It’s easy to be ‘spiritual’ when the going is good and life goes our way. Anyone can do that! But staying strong in wisdom when all around is falling apart, when profound loss knocks upon our door or deep disappointment becomes our companion: that’s when our true colours shine through, bold and resplendent or fading and pale. The first blossoms of awakening may tell us all is sorted and we’ll be peaceful evermore, but it’s only when life gets involved that we really discover the heights and depths of our soul.
Under the light of this Taurus Moon, commitments made to honour deep truth whatever it takes, will be infused with profound staying power regardless of what the future holds. We need to ground the energy of this Moon, embody it, breathe it in and become it, allowing it to occupy our every cell. Life on the brink of a new astrological alignment challenges any body, psyche or spirit not yet in synch with its vibration. This Moon illuminates those places within where recalibration is needed to prepare for the next wave of energy and experience. As a consequence we’re soon to discover just how well our beliefs reflect the truth and just how fully we can embody that truth no matter how iconoclastic it proves to be. There are exciting times ahead, and challenging ones. This Full Moon provides fuel for us to journey, for there is still so much more to be discovered, acknowledged and known.
